Rather than lecture, the day’s instructions are always delivered via brief videos and written instructions. You’ll begin each day on the Rundown and you’ll always be aware of what we’re doing. Well, you will if you pay attention to details. You never know when a hidden quest will appear in the fine print. ? If you miss a day, the day’s instructions will always be at your fingertips. Got it? Good! Then let’s get to it.

IMPORTANT: Apologies for beginning with a no but the district has asked that we not stream music (Spotify, Pandora, YouTube, etc.) on the network. And please don’t use your phone/device in class.* First offense for either: 100 Club. Second: 200 Club. (See the pattern?) You may earn the right to play music off your phone/device via headphones once you purchase your Guild and maintain an A.

*If you need to use your phone in class, ask, and I’ll say yes (if it really is important). If you try to sneak it—for any reason—First offense: 100 Club. Second: 200 Club. (And you know where it goes from there.)

Now, on to the videos…

Welcome to the Creative Crusade, Visitor. We have a lot of ground to cover so let’s get a few things out of the way.

Creative Crusade is a self-paced, student-centered, gamified learning environment. If you play by the rules and try your best, you’ll earn an A. If you begin working before the tardy bell and continue working through the ending bell each day, you’ll earn over 3000 Gold this semester. Well, you’ll actually earn far more than that. The 3K is yours just for showing up early and playing by our rules. We have no homework. We have no tests. You’ll learn by doing and in doing you’ll show what you know—or don’t know—each and every day.

Our class is widely known for the stellar artwork like you see on our walls of fame, but these days we are looking for students to look to new ideas and designs beyond our walls.

For those who work, Creative Crusade rocks. For those who don’t, Creative Crusade sucks. If you’re unwilling to play by the rules and try your best, please do us both a favor, see your counselor, and find another elective.

Before we create your Creative Crusade account, I’d like to ask you to read something. This manifesto of sorts was written by a colleague friend of mine that teaches Digital Design in southern California. It’ll take you 25 to 30 minutes. It took him 25 to 30 hours to write. If you don’t finish today, you may read it on your own time or finish it tomorrow. Fair enough?

Okay, please read (re)Imagine then return to this page.

REQUIRED before week 2 quests: So, Visitor, now that you understand our mission, are you interested in joining us? Would you like to try to change the world, to make it a better place, and to help move our education system into the 21st century? If so, please fill out your passport application and you’ll be ready to register for your account. Meanwhile, check out the links (above) until further instructions are provided.

It’s time to Get Registered.

In the Game

REQUIRED: Once your account is activated and you are logged in, click the POD link in the nav bar (at the top of the page) and begin working through the Getting Started quests—in order. HINT: Take your time and pay attention to detail. Since there are no tests, you’ll show what you know—or don’t know—in your actions each and every day. (Besides walking around and observing, the Captain can see every computer in the room on one of his big monitors up front.)
