Divisional Playoffs - Baltimore Ravens v Denver Broncos“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.”

-Samuel Beckett

Visitor, are you scared of failure?

Do you avoid certain situations because of the possibility of failure or even the probability of failure?

I think you are better than that. I believe one of the biggest diservices American culture has created is the unacceptance of failure. Perhaps you have heard the saying failure is not an option. In reality failure is not only a part of life is a part that should be encouraged. It is called learning. If you are not willing to fail how much success will you ever be able to achieve.

Don’t confuse failure in attempts with failure to attempt however. You can never succeed if you don’t try, therefore try, try, try again. It’s part of our class rubric. How far are you willing to go. How hard are you willing to try to fail….and succeed. Success is not always measured upon a final product but often the journey that got you there. If you are willing to tak this journey you will love design.

My modern interpretation of Samuel Beckett’s quote..”Go big or go home!”

As the feature image for this week’s post shows failure hurts but its not the end of Manning, the Broncos, or even Moore. The Broncos and Rahim Moore certainly failed but I am willing to bet they will try, fail, try, fail, and of course we all hope try again and succeed in the big one next year. Either way they won’t simply quit when it gets challenging.

It has come to my attention that several of you are not READING all the info with the quests and just simply skipping to the video links. Don’t do this as you will miss essential skills and directions that I will not continue to help with. At this point you should have watched ALL of the quest videos. These are not options yet at this point of the semester. You are responsible for understanding classroom policies and minutes as they apply to your semester in this lab.

Today: Continue working on quests and mastery from last week. Please take your time on the 5 steps of the creative process. I will be taking sections of the class to teach the matting demo for framing your asymmetrical type designs.

I have checked a few of the blogs and while most of the mastery claims are legitimate a few are not clear enough. Mastery should state what you now KNOW about that particular quest. While a sentence or two might be enough it must be clear. This however does not apply to the 5 stages of creative process quest. As stated in quest itself I am looking for more. I want to see your understanding of each of the individual stages. Failure to do so will result in loss and penalty of gold and XP. I have also noticed a handful of you are not remembering to claim the mastery on the quest page after you have shown mastery on your blog. Make sure to go back and do this. A couple of you are not even claiming complete after you have read and watch the videos for the quest. This is required to show you have completed all necessary quest in order to be able to move on.

Continue working towards mastery as I continue the mounting demos with the rest of the class.
